Athony Dabe managed to win Zyte GP once again on his 36th birthday. We have a part of his after-race interview:
'The last climb was like a dream. There were so many fans shouting my name that I never even felt my legs. I was seriously considering ending my career today, but how can I do that after seeing all those fans and winning the race? I just have to keep riding for another season.'
Of course, we asked Driehoek manager Koen for a reaction to Dabe's decision.
'Well, I admit that I was looking forward to seeing Dabe as a coach. But when a champion like Athony tells me that he wants to keep cycling the fan in me can only cheer. Beside that, he may be 36, but he has clearly proven today that he's still strong enough to show the younger guys how it's done.'
'Will you offer Dabe another chance at this race on his 37th birthday?'
'If possible yes, but to be honest I hope that we won't be able to join Zyte GP next year. We had a lot of bad luck in the early part of this season and that's why we ended up in Division 3. Of course, with Stiver winning Perm Tour and now Dabe winning Zyte GP we can hardly complain about that.'
